Positive Effects of Sports on Children

Positive Effects of Sports on Children

Sports is a large part of the society. The NBA (National Basketball Association), NFL (National Football League), MLB (Major League Baseball) and NHL (National Hockey League) are just a few of the professional sports associations. Women also have professional leagues such as the WBA (Women's Basketball Association). However, before these athletes became professionals they began as child athletes. The confidence they have now was not always there. Sports has a positive effect on children.

Confidence

Involvement in sports builds a child's confidence. The child has the opportunity to experience success based on her efforts. It is often said that confidence breeds success, which breeds more confidence.

Team Play

A child who plays sports learns how to function within a team. He learns the part he must play in order for the team to work and succeed.

Analysis

If a child does not play sports he may follow the statistics of his favorite team. Sports used in this way helps a child understand how to analyze what a player does and how it affect the player's personal statistics. The child may begin to suggest different plays or techniques to use to improve results.

Effort and Outcome

The child learns that the effort put into something may not always yield the expected outcome. The child learns to work smart.

Fitness

Sports ensures that a child engages in physical activity. As the child develops into an adult the child may experience less obesity.
