NBA Games for Kids

Since its inception in 1946, the National Basketball Association has been entertaining kids with exciting play and talented athletes. When kids aren't rooting for their favorite teams, they can still enjoy the action by playing games that feature their favorite NBA players.

Video Games

Whether you have a popular video game console or a personal computer, the NBA has licensed several games for kids of all ages to play.

Each year, EA Sports releases a new version of "NBA Live." Your child can pick his favorite team and play a buddy or challenge the computer to a single game or a full season. If you have Xbox Live equipment, he can play online against anybody in the world that also has Xbox Live.

"NBA Live" games are priced around $60 when released, so you might want to look for a used version at a popular retailer like Gamestop or purchase last year's version. Most of the content will be the same, and you'll save at least half of what the latest version costs.

For the younger kids, try Atari's "Backyard Basketball," which features child players. Kids as young as 6 can play, and the animated graphics are hilarious. This game is a few years old, but still easy to find at most electronic retailers for around $20.

Online Fun

If you have an Internet connection, your child can log onto the NBA's official website and play a few games. He can try the 3-point shootout to test his long distance skills or attempt the NBA's answer to the classic Tetris game game by aligning NBA icons rather than shapes. The NBA Match-Up lets your child match his favorite stars as quickly as he can to earn points.

The NBA also has a section on its website just for kids. Your child can learn more about his NBA favorites and get tips on staying fit.
