Cute Ideas for a Family Portraits

Cute Ideas for a Family Portraits

Family portraits are a traditional way to document the life of your family. However, as the family and tastes have changed, the usual sit-down portrait is being replaced with more whimsical, relaxed or cute poses and themes. Whether the portrait is of you and your dog, you and your partner and children, or you and your siblings, there are ways to break away from the ordinary and create memorable art that captures who you really are.

Candid Portraits

Your family portrait doesn't have to be shot in a studio. Hire a photographer to spend a day with your family as you go through your normal routine or on a day trip together. Let the photographer take candid, spontaneous shots of you as well as pose you during the day. Be yourself--dress as you like, go someplace your whole family enjoys, have fun with one another. The photographer will be able to photograph your family in a unique and fun way that really captures your personalities.

Play up Your Interests

Is your family into fishing? Scrabble? Biking together? Ask your photographer to take pictures of you engaged in or referring to these family activities. You could all be posed on your bikes, or holding up your Scrabble tile racks with your names or the date spelled out. Are you fans of a sports team? Have your photo taken with everyone wearing their team gear--including face paint or funny hats. Is everyone a runner? Have your family portrait taken of just your feet--in your running shoes.

Multiple Pictures

Have a lot of photos taken with your family in different poses, and of each individual--and pet--in the family in front of bright colors, or wearing bright colors. Combine these in an Andy Warhol-style photo montage. Or take multiple photos in color and black-and-white and cut them out or use a photo imaging program to create a collage of images.

Famous Poses

Borrow from famous paintings or pictures you like and create fun and cute family portraits mimicking those paintings. Like the farm couple from Grant Wood's American Gothic? Pose with a pitchfork and a deadpan expression. Love Berthe Morisot's paintings of mothers and children? Pose in the same manner. Are you a huge fan of the Addams Family? Dress everyone in black and pose a la Morticia and Gomez. Love the Beatles? Pose as the Fab Four crossing Abbey Road or on Ed Sullivan.
